Review: "The Big Room" by M2M August 15, 2002 1:01 am By SARAH DULANEY The Free Lance-Star SARAH DULANEY YOUTH CORRESPONDENT CD name: "The Big Room" Artist: M2M Record co.: Atlantic Records Other CDs by artist: "Shades of Purple" Rating: Buy it today. Best-known songs: Everything, though perhaps not in America. Set this song on repeat: One of many songs to repeat is "Sometimes"--it's a fantastic and humorous song that is very easy to relate to. Best song you haven't heard on the radio: "Miss Popular"--another great song that displays a powerful sense of emotion--mostly anger--about a popular girl who just isn't too nice. Song that should've been left off the CD: They are all so great, really. Marit and Marion shine with their lyric and songwriting skills. Favorite lyrics: "Don't look at me with that smile / Don't act like everything's fine / Stop putting dreams in my head / When I should have thought of him instead." --from "Don't." I really like these lyrics because they sound great--and it's a plea not only to the boy object of desire, but to the girl who is having these thoughts. Sounds like: In M2M's second international release, this album has a more rock edge to it. They've been called the Norwegian Hanson (except they're girls), which is a great compliment to their music/lyric writing abilities. The music is pop, but not like *NSYNC or Backstreet Boys. The girls themselves call it "organic pop." Afterthoughts: The whole album is great, except that it's kinda short. I wish there were more girl bands like M2M that write their own music and play instruments. They are incredibly talented, and deserve more recognition in America. Catch them this summer on tour with Jewel. SARAH DULANEY is a rising freshman at North Stafford High School.
