All the M things May 2000 Dropping by Singapore for the second time to promote their smashing album 'Shades of Purple', Marit Larsen and Marion Raven met up with the MTV Asia Online crew for a little overdue chat at Hard Rock Cafe Singapore . So what did they have to say to us? "I don't have a dirty habit!" screams Marit "Oh! You are too nice!" says smiling Marion, while chewing girls' plate of healthy assorted veggies, Okay, Marit and Marion are nice girls . But they still have their prankish moments. . But still, we managed to get the playful girls to interview. Time for M2M to think about the millions, the music, and of course... RoMaNcE! If you think you are ready for your sweet dose of M2M, here are some helpful "road signs" to watch out for! Marion Marit Three short 'bizarre' facts for you to savor MTV: You started your career at a very young age. Do you feel that you've had to grow-up fast? No, it's not difficult at all! It's a lot of fun actually. Yeah, we are having fun performing, meeting our fans and everything. Of course it will be difficult if you miss your family and friends. But the day goes really fast as you have so much to do. MTV: What about school then? I don't feel like I have to grow up fast but it's hard sometimes. The people we work with, sometimes they treat us like grown-ups and sometimes they treat us a little kids. They switch in between when they want to. It can be pretty annoying sometimes! MTV: Is life difficult on the road? I have a teacher with me on the road and I do school I have one year off after tenth grade now. MTV: Now that you are famous pop stars, how do your friends back home treat you? My closest friends are just the same. And the other friends that I'm not too close to... They are also the same. Of course they come with little comments about M2M and stuff. But that's normal! You just have to accept that because that's how it is. MTV: Is there a need to disguise yourselves back home with sunglasses and act like pop stars? Or are you just you? I think we are the same people back home. We do tell our friends about what we have experienced and done. But we don't go home and brag about it. We can be ourselves back in our own country. We don't have to wear sunglasses and wigs to disguise ourselves. I think that's nice! MTV: What are you going to spend on once the millions roll in? I don't know... If we get a lot of money from selling records, I think I'm going to save them up to make my own studio. Then, we can make more records! I think the same too You will have to pay the other half ! Yeah! A place where we could just sit down, writing and producing songs will be really cool! M2M actually shares the same mix engineer as ... Blink 182 Hello? Blink 182 and M2M using the same mix engineer ? how bizarre, how bizarre! But we must admit that M2M pulls off a pretty convincing "All the Sweet Things!" MTV: Did you sort of prepare for an alternative career just in case M2M didn't make it? Well, we do school But it's like we are young to think of that kind of thing. If this doesn't work-out, I think we will still be doing music in another way. Maybe I will be a songwriter or a producer or something. MTV: You didn't start playing instruments right away. So why did Marit choose guitar and Marion piano? Why not the other way around, or something like drums? My dad has been playing all those records of his and he plays Elton John all the time! I started to play when I was eight and I fell in love with it. I like the sound of it and I love writing songs with the piano I think the guitar is such an emotional instrument. You can do finger picking and be on the romantic side. Or you can go totally rock and play it loud! I like that variety on an instrument and I always like records with guitars on them. MTV: How long have you been playing it? I have been playing for three years... Well, almost four now actually! But I just got the red guitar a year ago You have a tambourine that you bought in LA, didn't you? Yeah, that's right... But I think I bought it in New York... Oh! I don't remember actually! MTV: You girls write your songs. So where do you normally write your songs and get your inspiration from? Some people get their inspiration in the loo. It's great to say... somewhere else! We get it from everything. Things we experienced, things we do. Maybe a girlfriend who told you a story about a stupid guy and you can write a song about it. We can write anywhere, on a plane and hotel rooms. We actually wrote a song four days ago in Tokyo while were sitting and waiting to go. MTV: What's the worst thing ever said about M2M? The worst question maybe? There was once then somebody asked us it we are just joking or is it really true that we wrote and sing the songs ourselves. He asked that in a very offensive way! Yeah! And in the end, he said something like, "I don't think you are true. I think you are just joking and you are fake!" And we think it's really important to let people know that we create music and we are real musicians! We are not a band that our manager put together or anything. Marit hates wearing pink! She says pink makes her look like a 12 year old! Aww... Marit looking like a 12 year old? And the bizarre thing is, we can all imagine how Marit looks in pink. Avoid pink at all cost, Marit! MTV: There are quite a number of songs on your album that deal with love. In your own words, can you tell us what LoVe is? I don't know if I have experienced real love yet 'cause I'm only 16. I think it's about respect. Yeah. It's about finding a person that you can totally relax with It's a beautiful thing. It makes you happy and it makes you sad too. It makes you feel everything! MTV: You are such good friends. But what will happen if you both fall in love with the same guy? I don't know... It hasn't happened as we have really different tastes. I don't think it will happen anyway. But if it does happen... I will get him! It's not like we have a deal that if that ever happens, and this and this is going to happen. It won't happen! MTV: Okay, who is more popular with the boys then? Marion gets the most! MTV: Is it a long hair thing? No! It's hard to say that! We are Marit and Marion , we make music together. So people will have to view us as a band. Other than that, we don't really care ! MTV: What are you going to do if someone does a "kiss and tell" on you? If there's somebody I kissed, then I guess it would be special. But if he runs around telling people about it... I think he shouldn't talk about things like that. What happened should be private between you and him. If someone does that, I will yell at him and kick his butt! What can we say? Girl power indeed!
